Congratulations on Malta’s Presidency of the Council of Europe

Message of Congratulations on Malta’s Presidency of the Council of Europe

A short while ago, Malta officially assumed the Presidency of the Council of Europe for the upcoming six months.

From the bottom of our hearts, we wish to extend our sincere congratulations to the Government of Malta, and in particular to the Honourable Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Ian Borg, who will be leading this important mandate.

We firmly hope that this Presidency will serve the common good of our country, and we believe that no one should be allowed to tarnish Malta’s name. We remain confident that our nation stands firm in its values—especially in recognising the invaluable work of Maltese voluntary groups, who serve with dedication to support the most vulnerable in our society.

Once again, we say heartfelt congratulations, and we express our best wishes for a fruitful and prosperous term over the next six months—for the benefit of all.

Appeal for Solidarity with the Mission

Appeal for Solidarity with the Mission of Fr. Abiyot Desalegn in Gambella, Ethiopia

Fr. Abiyot Desalegn is a Catholic priest and missionary who leads numerous missionary communities in the Gambella region of Ethiopia. He is deeply committed to supporting orphaned children and families living in extreme poverty.

The main issue is not the lack of clothing for these children — the crisis runs much deeper. The most urgent and pressing need is food. Many of these children fall ill simply due to malnutrition. In countries where governments neglect the basic needs of their people, hunger is a daily reality. In response, Fr. Abiyot is making a heartfelt appeal: even the smallest contribution from each of us can help these children receive the nourishment they need to survive.

Fr. Abiyot has invited Doninu (Malta) International to collaborate with him on a joint project to support these vulnerable children through direct assistance and sustainable outreach.

Help a Young Maltese Teenager Fighting for His Life

PRESS RELEASE

A Call for Prayers and Support: Help a Young Maltese Teenager Fighting for His Life

Dear Maltese and Gozitan people, and all those with a compassionate heart,

We are reaching out with an urgent and heartfelt appeal.

A young Maltese teenager has been receiving treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the UK for the past seven months. He initially underwent a critical spinal operation, but serious complications followed. Tragically, his left lung collapsed, and he had to undergo emergency surgery. He is now in a coma, relying on life support as his body continues a fierce battle for survival.

His mother has remained by his side throughout, but the emotional and financial burden of being abroad for so long has become unsustainable. She needs our help—now more than ever.

We are calling for your prayers for this brave young boy’s recovery and for your kind support to help his family through this unimaginable ordeal.

Let us unite in solidarity and compassion. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a real difference.

To donate directly to the family:

  • Revolut: +356 9990 1078
  • BOV Mobile App: +356 9990 1078

Let us lift this family with our love, our prayers, and our action. Together, we can bring hope where it is most needed.

Thank you, and may God bless you all.

A Mother’s Cry for Her Son

This is the heartfelt cry of a mother whose son resides in a care home managed by the Wens Foundation. The mother is deeply concerned about her son’s wellbeing and asks: Why are we allowing vulnerable persons with disabilities to be mistreated? Where are the authorities who are supposed to protect these individuals? And where are the NGOs who claim to be pioneers in defending the rights of the vulnerable?

Dear Mother, please know this: we will always stand behind you.

Team Doninu (Malta) International

stands with you — always.

We Will Always Stand Behind You

The ongoing silence from the authorities speaks volumes — it is a sign that we are on the right path. Our commitment remains firmly with the vulnerable, especially persons with disabilities.

We want to assure the families and legal guardians of the persons with disabilities residing in the homes managed by Fondazzjoni Wens that we will continue walking this path with you. We will not stop until everything that rightfully belongs to you is restored.

Doninu (Malta) International stands with you — always.

DONINU

Doninu (Malta) International, founded in June 2023, operates as a fully voluntary, non-profit organisation dedicated to helping vulnerable individuals, particularly those with disabilities. The organisation provides non-monetary aid, including food, clothing, and psychosocial support, without collecting donations or public funds.

Despite its lawful status under Maltese and international law, some public authorities are questioning Doninu’s operations simply because it is not registered with the Office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations (OCVO). According to the Voluntary Organisations Act (Cap. 492), registration is not mandatory for organisations that do not handle public funds. This exemption exists to allow groups like Doninu to operate freely without bureaucratic hindrance.

Doninu’s work is inspired by universal spiritual values, particularly those found in Christianity and Islam, which call for compassion and aid to the vulnerable. The organisation’s mission is aligned with the teachings of Pope Francis and supported by Malta’s national commitment to social justice, as expressed by past and present Prime Ministers.
