Voice of Disability

VOICE of Disability (VoD)
Bil-Malti
Din is-sezzjoni infetħet din is-sena wara li bdejna ninnotaw imġiba mhux xierqa u traskuraġni serja lejn persuni b’diżabilità. Sfortunatament, saħansitra xi awtoritajiet Maltin li suppost huma l-pilastru ta’ dawn il-persuni, fallew milli jaraw il-bżonnijiet tagħhom.
Din il-VoD twaqqfet biex tfakkar lil Martin Ambinette, persuna b’diżabilità li kienet tgħix f’residenza. Minħabba pressjoni mentali u traskuraġni minn dawk responsabbli, Martin ddeċieda li ma jirritornax fir-residenza u nstab mejjet wara 25 ġurnata. Għalkemm saret inkjesta maġisterjali, ħadd ma jista’ jġibu lura.
Nemmnu li meta l-awtoritajiet ifallu, il-konsegwenzi jistgħu jkunu fatali – u għalhekk irridu nkunu il-leħen ta’ min m’għandux leħen.
Inkomplu niftakru f’Martin Ambinette u naħdmu b’passjoni biex traġedji bħal dawn ma jerġgħux iseħħu.
In English
This section was launched this year after observing inappropriate behavior and serious neglect toward persons with disabilities. Unfortunately, even some of the Maltese authorities, who should be the backbone of support, have failed to meet these individuals’ needs.
The Voice of Disability (VoD) was created to honor Martin Ambinette, a person with a disability who lived in a care residence. Due to extreme stress and negligence by the responsible authorities, Martin decided not to return to the residence. He was reported missing and found dead 25 days later. Although a magisterial inquiry was held, nothing will bring Martin back.
We believe that when institutions collapse, the vulnerable collapse with them — unless someone steps up to be their voice.
We will always remember Martin Ambinette and continue working tirelessly to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
”Voice of Disability”
Verse 1
In the silence, voices calling,
Echoes of the ones ignored.
Martin’s spirit, now enthralling,
Fighting for the rights restored.
Verse 2
Through the shadows, we are marching,
Hands united, hearts aligned.
Justice for the ones we’re arching,
Equality for all mankind.
Chorus
Voice of Disability, rise and sing,
For the rights that justice bring.
In the memory of Martin’s plea,
We stand together, bold and free.
Verse 3
No more silence, no more hiding,
Truth and justice lead our way.
Martin’s legacy, abiding,
Guides us through each passing day.
Verse 4
We are voices, we are standing,
For the rights we all deserve.
With our unity commanding,
Justice is the path we serve.
Final Chorus
Voice of Disability, rise and sing,
For the rights that justice bring.
In the memory of Martin’s plea,
We stand together, bold and free.
